1 day a Year fishing

Is this really as stupid as it looks? The Dogon people of Mali can fish only once a year in this lake, on that appointed day they clear the whole lake of fish and then wait another year. I dn't get how they can sustain doing this every year. Whats the point?

  1. That's really strange... is there really nothing left afterward?

But it seems like an epic fun fish fest

    (also, first!)

  3. Wow ! When I first looked I thought this would be a few people going for a fish. Then BOOM ! hundreds of people going at it for a prize catch on some precious fish !

  4. That is pretty odd... Sounds like a fun day when it comes around though - massive fishing competition, of sort!

  5. maybe it's a river which on certain times of the year, become a lake. That kind of lakes exist in the peruvian jungle. Could happen there, in Africa and that explains why they never run out of fish. Just guessing

  6. No idea how the fish mate and get back into the lake for that time again the next year.

  7. Thats just creepy. YOu would think that most of the fish would be trampled to death. Am I right?
